Electing to bat in this 40 over mid-week encounter at the lovely Sawbridgeworth Ground, Belhus started well as openers Didd and Suneel put on 119 for the 1st wicket. Riley Everitt made an attractive 54. However, for a time the innings lost momentum thanks to guest player Sam Robinson who bowled 8 overs for just 21 runs. An excellent knock of 64 n.o. by Aftab Mohamed, his highest of the season, with young Oliver Davy (13 n.o.) allowed Belhus to close on a healthy 264 for 6 wickets off their alloted overs on this excellent, very flat wicket with a short boundary to one side.

In reply, Sawbridgeworth set about the Belhus bowling as openers James and Frans put the young Belhus attack to the sword. James retired on a hundred whom we dropped twice early on and Jonas made 75 off just 47 balls until he absolutely smashed an Oliver Davy long hop to veteran Mike Randall at short mid off who took an amazing catch. At this point the Sawbridgeworth innings lost momentum as No. 3 Carl Ginn (another guest) struggled to get going taking 13 balls to get off the mark as the bowling tightened despite only now having ten fielders as Chris Didd damaged a hand due to a fierce return drive bowling. With the run rate at now 7 an over required skipper Randall called for a sub in the hope Behlus might sneak a win but No. 5 Rhys Ashman had other ideas and hit 30 off just 23 balls for Sawbridgeworth to win by 7 wickets with 11 balls left. Young Oliver Davy had excellent figures of 1 for 31 off his 8 overs. Gin carrying his bat for 39 off 59 balls.

Well played Sawbridgeworth and thanks for a nice tea. This was a good performance by a young and inexperienced Belhus side who were a credit to the club and were just out-gunned by a more mature and superior outfit. (Mike Randall).
