Belhus Sunday 2nd XI, captained by Wayne Read, put in a good overall performance against a decent Orsett side in this 35-over encounter at North Stifford. A contrived toss allowed Orsett to bat first and they made good progress as Greg Mendham and youngster Barton both scored 31. J. Chandiler (49), who was unlucky to miss out on his 50, and J.Hart (28) also made good contributions. Steady bowling combined with deep field settings somewhat restricted the Orsett & Thurrock run rate, perhaps assisted by some lacklustre running between the wickets closing on a decent but perhaps slightly under par score of 194 for 6. Louis Mailey bowled well to take 4 for 31 supported by Charlotte Waters 0 for 33 off 7.

In reply, Belhus reached 12 for no loss when Randall hit one straight to mid-off. Cansdale soon followed but Chris Didd, who was given a life early on, made Orsett pay with a hard hit 91 as cameos from young Samuel Hiscott (24), Aftab Mohammed (13) and Louis Mailey (28 n.o) completed a good day and saw us home by 4 wickets with 4.2 overs remaining.
