Belhus Cricket Club Under 13 Spitfires v Rankin's on Sun 29 Aug 2021 at 09:30
Belhus Cricket Club Won by 6 Wickets
Match report
Belhus Under 13s 100-7
Rankin's Under 13s 104-4
With the season coming to an end, the spitfires hosted Rankins for the U13 League Semi Final.. Dylan lost the toss and Rankins were asked to bat first in overhead conditions. Louie Mailey, trusted with the new ball this week in the absence of James Webb did the damage, removing both Casey and Young with 2 stunning deliveries. Wickets fell regularly for Rankins throughout and they found themselves perched at 56-5. Young Joseph Potter batted very well before retiring and combined a good partnership with Eastwood as he hit 20 runs before being bowled once again by Mailey from his 2nd spell.. Rankins closed on 100 runs after their 24 overs, 7 wickets down as Matt Friend picked up 1-8 off his 3 overs as well, and Riley Everett chipping in with 2-13 off his 2. There was a good run out by Louie Mailey who had the best game with the ball all year and in the field, claiming 2 catches and a run out as well as picking up 3 wickets for 7 runs off his 3 overs.
In reply, 101 was needed to get us into the final. Riley opening up with a Charlie this week got us off and rolling. A few semi finals nerves were definitely felt in the opening overs, but Riley composed himself and hit 19 very quick runs to lay us the foundation on what was always going to be a very hard 101 runs given the circumstances. Casey removed Walker, and Riley fell in the next over to the leg spin of Potter which left the game in the balance. Louie Mailey and James Maynard came together and put on the best partnership of the year thus far. Both understanding the situation of the game, what’s required and then to be able to apply themselves in the moment was a highlight of how far the team has come this year. A wonderful partnership saw them both retiring on 25. A little wobble as Alfie and Dylan fell in quick sucession, and with only 10 runs needed to win meant Rankins had a sniff but Aaryian made sure that was never happening and smashed 2 fours back to back to get us in the final.
A good game of cricket,. We were excellent in the field and have real depth with our bowling. Riley laid an excellent foundation up front with the bat, losing wickets in multiples is something we need to work on but a great partnership between Maynard and Louie saw us home in the end. We play Benfleet in the Final who have had our number twice this season, let’s put that right on Sunday.
