Belhus Cricket Club Won by 2 Runs

Match report Belhus Sunday 1st XI 213-7 ( Louie Mailey 118*)
Wickord 211all out (Ben Leworthy 84)

This was an exciting 40-over Sunday friendly match at North Stifford.

Batting first, we posted a respectable total of 213 for 7 aftrer being 20 for 4!! thanks primarily to Louie Mailey who, batting at No. 5, recorded a magnificent maiden century (118*) with 2 sixes and 12 fours. He received good support from James Webb who made 31, Tyler Martin with 20 and Captain Chris Didd with 11.

It was an achievable target for Wickford who batted sensibly in their run-chase, and at 165 for 5 were sitting marginally in the driving seat. And although Ben Leworthy looked as though he was going to steer his side home, he was caught by Louie Mailey off the bowling of Chris Didd for a fine 84 with Wickford perched on 197 for 7 and requiring just 17 runs to win with 3 wickets remaining with the 38th over going for 9 runs. Creeping to 211 for 8, Wickford had the game in the bag until Louie Mailey caught Stuart Bevan off the bowling of Teddy Waters leaving them 3 runs to win with 4 balls remaining. Then, with the last pair at the crease, Teddy Waters scooped a welcome one handed 'caught and bowled' to give us victory by just 2 runs with 2 balls remaining of the Wickford innings. Tyler Martin also took a very good catch on the deep square leg boundary to remove the dangerous Billy Corps who survived a very confident L.B.W shout from Chris Didd.

Cricket doesn't get much better than this. Well played Belhus. Tx to Julie for scoring

A match that will long be remembered, especially for Louie Mailey in recording his maiden ton and for holding four outfield catches. Congratulations to him.
