Crusaders 134-9

Batting first at North Stifford on this Bank Holiday Monday, we made our way slowly to a disappointing 135 for 4 from our allotted 35 overs as our innings failed to gain momentum. Gus Philpot (57*) and Wayne Read (48*) were our lead run-scorers.

In their run-chase, Crusaders found runs hard to come by and stuttered to 10 for 3 as both Belhus opening bowlers struck early. The first was an Aftab Mohamed special that swung massively to bowl opener F. Hayot first ball. Wickets fell steadily but a stand of 50 for the 6th wicket threatened to turn the game for Crusaders, but good catching in the deep by Mailey and Everitt and then a direct hit at the non-striker's end by Everitt, turned the game again. It came down to the final over with the last pair at the crease, requiring 6 to win. Three singles were scored off the first five deliveries as the ball found the fielders. The final ball required 3 to win as Gus Philpot held his nerve bowling well. Fortunately for Belhus they could only muster one and Belhus ran out winners. Well played Belhus as Crusaders couldn't quite get over the line. Teddy Waters took 3 for 31 with Louis Mailey and James Webb capturing 2 wickets apiece.

We won an exciting match by just 1 run. Albeit low-scoring, it was an excellent game of cricket. Thanks to Julie for scoring.
