LOUIE MAILEY REGISTERS MAIDEN CENTURY:
Belhus Sunday 1st XI 213-7 ( Louie Mailey 118*)
Wickford 211 all out (Ben Leworthy 84).
This was an exciting 40-over Sunday friendly match at North Stifford on 16th June.
Batting
first, we posted a respectable total of 213 for 7 thanks primarily to
Louie Mailey who, batting at No. 5, registered a magnificent maiden
century (118*) with 2 sixes and 12 fours.
It was an achievable
target for Wickford who batted sensibly in their run-chase, and at 165
for 5 were sitting marginally in the driving seat. And although Ben
Leworthy looked as though he was going to steer his side home, he was
caught by Louie Mailey off the bowling of Chris Didd for a fine 84 with
Wickford perched on 197 for 7 and requiring only 17 runs to win with 3
wickets remaining. Creeping along to 211 for 8, Wickford had the game in the
bag until Louie Mailey caught Stuart Bevan off the bowling of Teddy
Waters leaving them 3 runs to win with 4 balls remaining. Then, with the
last pair at the crease, Teddy Waters scooped a welcome 'caught and
bowled' to give us victory by just 2 runs. Fantastic.
Cricket doesn't get much better than this. Well played Belhus.
A
match that will long be remembered, especially for Louie Mailey in
recording his maiden ton and for holding a hat trick of catches. Congratulations to him.
