The day started with 2 minutes silence in memory of former chairman, fixtures secretary and popular member Fred Taylor.

On a scorching hot day, Belhus were naturally disappointed to lose the toss and braced themselves for a toil in the sun.

After the loss of two quick wickets, Walthamstow were sitting on 27-2 and although recovering a little, their wheels came to rest at 109-4. But then a 106-run 5th wicket partnership saw them gain the initiative to reach 215-5, and they marched forward to post a final total of 316 for 8 (34 extras including 27 wides) from the 50 overs after Joel Bayley had taken control with a commanding 122. Well batted Joel. Louie Mailey was the pick of the Belhus bowlers with 3 for 53.

In response, our 1st XI lost early wickets to find themselves precariously perched on 27 for 4. But then Belhus fought back gamely with 5th and 6th wicket partnerships of 91 and 53 before Dylan Sinfield fell for 54 and opener Lewis Blake was dismissed for what had been a controlling 87. At 171 for 6, skipper Billy Winter (70*) and Louie Mailey (64*) came together to take control of the game, and the prospect of a Belhus victory became distinctly likely. Against some pretty useful bowling and excellent fielding, they both produced positive, attractive cricket shots to all quarters and carved an unbroken 7th-wicket stand of 129. Alas, despite their sterling effort it was just not quite enough as the total closed on 300-6 and Walthamstow won by 16 runs. A good entertaining game with some fine performances. Well played Walthamstow.

This Belhus score of 300-6 is now the CLUB RECORD HIGHEST LOSING TOTAL BATTING SECOND - surpassing the 274 -9 v Leigh-on-Sea on 5th July 2014. And Billy Winter appeared in both matches.
