This was the first U16 Trevor Bailey Shield 40-over match of the season.

Loughton batted first and were in a strong position when perched on 132-3 with openers Muhammad Sarfraz (33) and Aayin Asam (31) leading the way. But all of our bowlers made a good effort to turn things around as we eventually dismissed Loughton for a 'gettable' 198 (which unfortunately included 50 extras).

In the run-chase, we were making good progress towards our target until opener Afra Rose was run out for a stoic, career-best 71 when we found ourselves poised on 145-6. With the game very much in the balance, Ben Gladman (coming in at No. 9) stroked a hard-hitting 28, but we fell agonisingly short to lose by just 12 runs.

This was a good game played by two talented sides. Well played Loughton.
