Belhus 1st XI started their 2025 HFEL campaign with an exciting match against Westcliff-on-Sea.

Batting first at Chalkwell Park, Lewis Blake (33) and Salman Khan (78 including 6 sixes) stroked a commanding 118-runs opening partnership before 3 wickets fell for just 1 run. But then Billy Winter turned things around with a run-a-ball half-century (62), and with a quick-fire 33* from Dylan Sinfield the team total escalated to a respectable 259 for 9 after 50 overs

In the run-chase after tea, Westcliff edged their way towards the target with the advantage swinging one way then the other, although while Joe Robbins was still at the crease, his team were marginal favourites when perched at 232 for 8. But when Louie Mailey (3 for 29) finally trapped Robbins lbw after an outstanding knock of 123 (5 sixes), and Dylan Sinfield (3 for 43) clean-bowled last man Adnan Khan, Belhus secured a 15-runs victory.

And with Belhus collecting 20 points from this first League match, skipper Ryan Wells was delighted with his young team's performance that bodes well for the coming season.
