Belhus Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v Harold Wood on Sat 17 Aug 2024 at 11:30am
Belhus Cricket Club Won by 1 Wicket
Match report
Harold Wood 1st XI 246-8 (Dhruv Talati 51)
Belhus 1st XI 247-9 (Ryan Wells 126)
In this fifteenth Hamro Foundation Essex League match of the season on a sunny day at North Stifford, Harold Wood won the toss and elected to bat first. They proceeded to post a par total of 246 for 8 from the allotted 50 overs thanks to a half-century (51) from opener Dhruv Talati with main support from Craig Perrin (48). Of our bowlers, Dylan Sinfield and Louie Mailey captured 3 wickets apiece and Pheko Molestane collected 3 outfield catches.
Having defeated Harold Wood earlier in the season we began our run-chase with some confidence, and at 176 for 4 were in the driving seat after an 88-run partnership betwen Billy Winter and Ryan Wells. But then we lost Winter for a dogged 20 and Henry Overy joined the immovable Wells to carve a 47-run 6th wicket partnership to take us to 223 for 5 with victory in our sights. But then disaster struck when we lost 3 wickets for just 1 run and the tables were turned in favour of Harold Wood as we found ourselves perched precariously on 224 for 8.
As we nudged our way to 240 for 8, requiring only 7 runs to win, we lost skipper Wells for a magnificent century (126) - his first Essex League ton for the 1st XI. So with 9 wickets down and the game very much in the balance it required good nerve from our two tail-enders, Abdullah Mir and Teddy Waters, to calmly edge us home to win by 1 wicket. Phew !
This was a great game of cricket, the result of which could have gone either way. Well played Belhus.
