Belhus 99 (J Flain 6 for 12)

Belhus played Orsett and Thurrock again and on the same pitch where the previous week the host had scored 95 and lost by 1 wicket. However, this was not the case today. Orsett elected to bat in this 35-over encounter and posted a very healthy 214 for 6 thanks to Jack Hart who retired on 51 and openers Nahal and Barton who made 44 and 49 respectively. Mark O'neil who scored a duck the previous week made a good 25. Initially, runs were again hard to come on a tired wicket of variable bounce and pace, as veteran Alan Maidment bowled well to concede just 15 runs from his 7 allocation. Sadly, the other bowlers could not emulate this as Orsett posted a very competitive score which was to prove far too many.

In reply, openers Michael Cansdale and Zoran Suneel made a solid start against some loose bowling until Cansdale was bowled playing a poor shot for a good 44 on the introduction of first change Flain. Young Zoran Suneel was then unluckily run out when he collided with colleague Hussain Katariwala on what was now proving a difficult wicket to bat on. This was fully exploited by James Flain who took 6 wickets for just 12 runs from his allocation as Belhus folded to a disappointing 99 all out to lose by 115 runs. Adam Martin with 22 was the only other player with some lusty blows to score double figures. Sadly, not one of our better days! Roll on next season.
