Belhus lost a crucial toss and paid the price. Having to bat first on a tricky seaming, uneven Ockendon Rec surface, the conditions were far from ideal for batting with a track as green as the outfield and understandably lacking ideal preparation with the recent wet weather. Coupled with an uncut outfield that made boundary hitting extremely tough, it was no great surprise the match was a low-scoring affair.

Openers Islam and Robertson did nudge Belhus to 32 without loss after 10 overs, but when the skipper edged behind the floodgates opened as Belhus proceeded to lose 10 wickets for a paltry 53 runs. Islam (18) and young Charlie Walker (15) were the only players to make double figures as Mr Extras top scored with 26 as the home side posted an inadequate total of 85. Credit to the Wanstead attack who bowled well with Sunkara (3 for 0), Sacree (2 for 3), Wajid (2 for 7) and Reilly (2 for 8) all travelling home with impressive figures.

In reply, the visitors benefitted from a drying surface and opener Wajid anchored their innings with a solid 30 not out, and who proved willing to seize on the bad ball when it was served up with 2 sixes proving currency to that effect. Nadeem weighed in with an aggressive 31 including 4 boundaries to ease any nerves after the early loss of opener Rahman to Saleem. Despite a late flurry of wickets as young seamers Mailey and Maynard grabbed two wickets apiece, Belhus were comfortably beaten by 5 wickets. Not a great start to the league season after last week's wash out. We move on.
