Match report
U11-13s Tour Game 2 - Acle
After an early (ish) night at the drinking establishment on site, we had the rather picturesque trip to Acle to look forward to on Tuesday.
Upon arriving at Acle we were greeted by our contact there, Fred. He’s a very happy gentleman and a scholar of the game too.
Having met him last year, it was great to catch up with him and check out how his year had gone.
For the second day running we lost the toss and were put into bat.
Opening the batting for us today was the Parker siblings (Sophie and James), with Sophie making her tour playing debut.
Both played very straight and made it difficult for the very good opening bowlers to harm to take wickets.
Next to the crease were John and Lewys with both lads getting off the mark with the first ball they faced. Neither lost a wicket either was was great to see.
Sam came in at 5 and hit his first ball for a 4. He played the rest of the balls he faced excellently and came away with a score of 6.
Dropping down a place in the order today was Oli and he came away with exactly the same result as the previous day. Getting another 19 which was his highest of the season so far.
Ben and Riley came in at 7 and 8 and really took the bowlers on with their batting. Ben getting 13 and Riley scoring an excellent 22. Both lads scored boundaries too and their running between the wickets was great.
In at 9 for Belhus today was Louie and scored a workman like 18 which included several singles and a huge 6, which turns out is his first ever. This batting display plus his great work in the field would later get him some praise from the management team also.
James M and captain Dylan came in at the death and during the 24 balls they faced between scored 59 runs. James M getting 23, Dylan top scoring with 28 and there were 8 extras.
Belhus ended with 179 runs, but the remarkable bit around that is we only lost one wicket. Therefore finished on a net score of 176.
At the halfway stage our host Fred was very complimentary of us and said they would have a huge task to try and chase that score down.
After a drink, a bit of catching practice the Belhus team set about defending that total…….and boy did they defend it!!
Sophie opened the bowling and picked up 3 excellent wickets. The first two were caught by Louie and for the third she sent the bails tumbling across Acle. She finished with 3-6 from her 2 overs.
James P was opening with Sophie and he too got in on the act with a wicket of his own which was a great catch from Dylan.
John and Lewys were first change bowlers and they caught the wicket bug too.
John took two wickets for 5 runs and Lewys got 1 wicket for the loss of 9 runs.
Riley and Sam bowled 5th & 6th and both kept everything straight and were not giving anything away to the batsmen. During these overs we picked up 2 wickets, with Sam bowling one batsman and the team got a run out from Riley’s bowling.
Oli and Ben bowled overs 13-16 and although they didn’t pick up any wickets between them, their four overs only went for 12 runs which was excellent and a great way to stop any possible fight back.
Louie, James M and Dylan bowled the last 6 overs between them and all bowled spin.
The home side were only able to add 20 runs during this period in which we picked up 3 wickets. Two of those were for Dylan including a caught and bowled and James getting a wicket after a great catch at gully from Louie.
That catch from Louie capped off his individual performance which got him today’s “Moment of the match”.
Louie scored 18 of the bat, got his first 6, got a maiden and made three great catches.
This was all to help restrict Acle to 82 runs for the loss of 13 wickets. Acle ended with a net score of 43, giving Belhus as 130 run victory.
For her excellent bowling display Sophie was awarded the match ball for her figures of 3-6.
