Belhus Cricket Club Won by 29 Runs

Match report Electing to bat on a scorching hot day in this local 35 over encounter at Horndon, a makeshift Belhus side, weak in the bowling department, made a good start in the batting department. The in-form Jack Plane and Adam Dudmish adding 95 for the first wicket until Dudmish was adjudged leg before to one that turned. The wicket then drastically deteriorated as the ball softened with numerous pea rollers and uneven bounce as runs became harder to find as the bowling improved. This was not helped by the long outfield with with cuttings still on the surface. making boundaries harder to come by. However, good contributions from Wayne Read and Simon Walker running like a whippet with contributions of 23 and 22 respectively saw Belhus close on a very competitive 198 for 9 which could have been a lot more if all the run two's had been fours!!. Wickets fell towards the end which were sacrificed for runs. Jack Plane finally expired on 70 retiring due to "heat stroke"!

The Horndon reply started badly as the home side reeled at 10 for 2 and later 25 for 3 as Captain Bibin Matthew made 15 being dropped twice. A lack of seam bowling saw Horndon recover as Randall and Singh Bal sent down some poor overs as Sujoy Matthews made 60. Usual Wicket keeper Simon Walker and Jack Plane bowling for the first time since he became a "batsman", both kept Horndon well behind the rate for the remainder of the game supported by some good catching at the latter stages for Belhus to emerge winners by 29 runs. Muhammed Javed bowled well conceding just 20 runs from his 7 overs. Thanks to Julie for scoring and those who helped the club out at very short notice making up the numbers. Well played Belhus.
