Belhus Cricket Club Sunday 2nd XI v Brockley on Sun 21 Jul 2019 at 2pm
Belhus Cricket Club Won by 68 Runs
Match report
Electing to bat on a sunny day in this 40 over friendly encounter at North Stifford, Belhus made a firm start as the Brockley openers struggled to find line and length (certainly at one end) with Dudmish and Healy making 28 and 27 respectively the innings became poised at 74 for 1 off 17 overs, and a high score looked likely. However, that old 'Belhus collapse' arrived, and the innings crashed to 107 for 6 as Miller and Mohammed bowled well for the visitors and a below par score now seemed likely. However, Mohammed Mosazai then raised the tempo with a brisk 18 until he was bowled unluckily off his pads. At 136 for 7 with 9 overs still remaining, young Henry Overy just 13 arrived at the crease joining captain Mike Randall 46 years his senior! who has become unaccustomed to batting in a 8th wicket stand of 53. This pushed the final total to a respectable and competitive 189 for 7 when a much larger total had initially threatened. Young Henry showing great maturity in compiling a solid 19, and combined this with good running and calling. Randall top-scored for the first time in ages with 36 n.o. at No 8.
In the Brockley reply, Belhus had an early break-through as the in-form Baiju Mohammed claimed an early success as opener Dickenson miscued to give Randall a simple catch at mid-on. The dangerous Hyder was then well caught by Michael Cansdale at cover off a fierce cut shot as the innings stumbled. J.Harper responded with an entertaining 30 but this was neutralized by the over-cautious Siafu Islam who batted some 70 balls for just 16 runs as the score rose slowly. At 88 for 3 off 22 overs and the run rate rising, the introduction of all-rounder Keith Dhannie who failed with the bat (but certainly not with the ball) grabbed a match-winning 5 for 9 off 7.3 overs as the Brockley innings imploded completely to 121 a.o. with 7.3 overs remaining. A convincing win for the home side by 68 runs. Young Henry Overy bowling at the other end complemented, completing a good all-round performance with a couple of wickets. Baiju Mohammed was again economical conceding just 13 runs from his 8 overs and Charlie Ovey again showed a marked improvement in fielding and bowling too, a successful 'Belhus day out'. Thanks to Julie for scoring, Mike for tea and Peter for a decent wicket. We look forward to seeing Brockley again and wish them well for the rest of the season.
