Belhus Cricket Club Sunday 2nd XI v Rosslyn on Sun 21 Apr 2019 at 2pm
Belhus Cricket Club Lost by 7 Wickets
Match report
Electing to bat against Rosslyn in this 40-over encounter on a lovely spring Easter Sunday, Belhus got off to the worst possible start as Zak Wilson innocuously edged behind second ball for a duck and fellow opener Dudmish followed for 12 with one that kept a bit low. The out-of-form Michael Cansdale scratched around for a sedate 20 to be L.B.W again for the third consecutive occasion as the innings failed to take off. Young Teddy Waters batting at number 4 then compiled a mature 56 with sound defence as wickets fell at the other end coupled with some good running between the wickets as the middle and later order boosted the total to a respectable if modest 160 for 8 as the overs ran out with two wickets falling in the final over. Congratulations to young Teddy Waters who became the youngest player in the club to score a fifty in a senior match at 13 years 262 days. There are sure to be many to follow, well played Teddy! The biggest contribution to the game from the Wilson family was surprisingly from Kim who put the tea out-well done as the rest of the family could muster just two runs!
In reply, Rosslyn had little trouble in knocking off the runs. Opener S.Ferris made a brisk 34 though riding his luck at times against the much improved Rhys Goulden who bowled well without much luck as too did Jamie Fairweather. Rob Marlow, whose 5 overs yielded just 10 runs, also bowled well until a strain prevented him from continuing. Fellow opener B.Collins batted well carrying his bat for a steady fifty and with guest player and Belhus Youth Chairman Jim Robertson scoring a fluent 35 at No. 4, Rosslyn won in 35.2 overs. No. 3 Naman chipped in with 18. On the plus side, a much improved bowling performance but sadly just not enough runs to defend. Thanks to Mike for the tea and Kim and the girls for putting it out, Julie for scoring and Martin for umpiring as well as Jim and Brandon who played for the opposition. Once again, congratulation to Teddy for a day he is sure to remember despite being on the losing side.
