Belhus Cricket Club Sunday 2nd XI v Abridge on Sun 14 Apr 2019 at 2pm
Belhus Cricket Club Lost by 8 Wickets
Match report
On what was an exceptionally cold if bright Sunday afternoon the Belhus 2nd XI got their season underway. Skipper Randall boldly chose to bat first and Zak Wilson ensured Belhus got off to a flyer as he rattled up a quick-fire 64 hitting 12 fours and 1 six. Belhus then moved from 78-1 in just 11 overs to 99-8 off 21 overs as the visitors took the pace off the ball and the bounce became low. Picceri with 4 wickets for 21 scythed through the in experienced batting line up which was slightly disappointing. Randall, did get a pea-roller, a rare occurence, the last one of which was seen at Stifford in 2000! It was left to father and son Jim and Tyler Robertson with (32) and (18) respectively to add 48 for the 9th wicket to help lift Belhus to a respectable if modest 157 all out off 36.2 overs
Abridge struggled initially to score runs, with their first 11 overs yielding just 31 without a boundary conceded, as promising youngsters Rhys Gordon and Sam George proved hard to get away after finding their line and length. However, the young and inexperienced change bowlers could not quite emulate this. Abridge, therefore, had little trouble in achieving their target for the loss of two wickets in 34.2 overs. Amit Gohil took 2 for 43 off 7 overs. For Abridge, Archer top-scored with a hard-hit 38 supported by Johnson with a steady 35 and Nick Elliott who made 27.
Belhus then retired to the side-lines to warm their cold hands and wish for warmer days. Well played Abridge.
Thanks to Julie for scoring, Martin Burnley for umpiring (it was freezing) and to Libby Cansdale for a nice tea.
