In the first Hamro Foundation Essex League match of the season, our 1st XI batted first but despite 32 from opener Lewis Blake, they steadily lost wickets to find themselves in deep trouble at 101-8. Moving carefully up to 121-9, it was then left to Louie Mailey (30) and James Webb (19*) to carve a much-needed last-wicket partnership of 36 to lift the score up to 157 all out. For Harlow, Russell, Whitworth and Jessey bowled well to capture 3 wickets apiece.

After tea and naturally disappointed in posting a lowly total of 157, our bowlers set about their uphill task with much determination and from 27-1 Harlow lost 7 wickets for just 4 runs to crash to 31-8. Harlow fought back gamely with 9th and 10th wicket partnerships of 42 and 44, but eventually capitulated to 117 all out to provide our delighted 1st XI with a convincing 40-run victory. It was Callum Owen (5-26 and his maiden '5for' for Belhus) and Louie Mailey (4-13) who did the damage in bowling magnificently to rip the heart out of the Harlow batting to give skipper Billy Winter's 1st XI a well-deserved 20 points.
