Belhus Cricket Club Sunday 1st XI v Bentley on Sun 09 Jun 2024 at 13:30
Belhus Cricket Club Lost by 6 Wickets
Match report
Belhus 223-7 (Lewis Blake 61)
Bentley 227-4 (D Coleman 111*)
Electing to bat in the National Village Cup zone final v Bentley in this 40 over encounter, Belhus made a steady start with the 1st wicket realising 24 until opener Alex Blake hit a long hop straight to mid wicket for 13. Abdullah Shazad made 24 before he suffered a similar fate but this time a catch to cover. Double figure contributions from Ryan Wells and Chris Didd steadied the innings until Wells hit a fierce drive to mid-on that was very well taken to depart for 36. Didd following somewhat frustrated going for a big hit trying to up the tempo bowled for 36. Riley Everett, showing great promise, made a run a ball 13 until he was brilliantly caught one-handed low down by the bowle. The highlight of the innings was that by Lewis Blake with possibly his best knock for the Club with an excellent 61 off just 45 balls. This included a stand with Dylan Sinfield (24) of eighty to push the total to a competitive 223 for 7. Teddy Walters who faced just one ball and the last ball of the innings played the shot of the day dispatching the only ball received for a big 6 over mid off. Best of the Bentley bowling came from G.Swinney 2 for 41 and M. Stevenson 2 for 55 off their allotted 8 overs.
In reply, Bentley lost the wicket of opener Coleman who was run out due to a mis-understanding in the 1st over, and a second wicket in similar fashion at 47 when fellow opener M.Carter departed for 21. However, the day belonged to number 3, D.Coleman who scored a hard hit 111 n.o after a very early let off and a couple of difficult half chances to take the game away from a very young Belhus side. He received good support from M. Stevenson (15) and R. Barker (24) and finally Bentley skipper Ashley Parmenter who made a good 32 to win by 6 wickets with 4.3 overs remaining. Best of the Belhus bowling came from Abdullah Mir who took 1 for 44 off his allotted overs. Perhaps we were 25-30 runs light.
Well played Bentley and good luck in the next round. Thanks to Julie and Mark for scoring, and the umpires Mike and Courtney, as well as a very nice tea supplied by Jim Robertson and his better half. And all those who helped to facilitate the match. I am sure this will not be the last time we reach this Zonal final as no doubt our very talented young side led by Ryan Wells will improve and mature quickly.
