Belhus Cricket Club Hurricanes (Softball) v Rainham on Wed 17 May 2023 at 17:30
Belhus Cricket Club Lost by 17 Runs
Match report
The first friendly match of the season against an external side came against Rainham at home in North Stifford. It was a pleasant evening with the sun out and spirits high, and a good crowd had formed to watch the game. Rainham won the toss and elected to field.
Belhus Hurricanes started slowly with the first boundary arriving in the 6th over from the bat of Yash Soni. Rainham bowled well throughout the innings and that proved to be the only boundary they conceded in the whole innings, although they did give away a number of extras (26 wides and 18 no-balls). Rainham finished their bowling strongly with the last two bowlers picking up 5 wickets for 6 runs (Ranvir Manota with 3 wickets and Imogen Stretton taking 2). Having lost a total of 14 wickets, the target set by the Hurricanes was 221 (200 + [63-42]).
The Hurricanes started their bowling innings very strongly with opening bowler Aryan Pokhriyal picking up 2 wickets from his 2 overs at the expense of only 1 run. But Rainham's batting got stronger as their innings went on with Ranvir Manota and Imogen Stretton scoring 22 between them as the last pair. Ranvir finished with 10, while Imogen scored 12, the top score of the game. In the end Rainham reached a total of 238 (200 + [80-42]) to win the game by a comfortable 17 runs.
The game was enjoyed by all and provided plenty of opportunity for the players to further their skills and learn more about the game. Congratulations to Rainham and good luck for the rest of the season!
