Orsett & Thurrock v Belhus Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI on Sat 24 Sep 2022 at 12.30pm
Belhus Cricket Club Won by 27 Runs
Match report
Belhus 148
Orsett 121
Batting First on what proved to be a tricky wicket, Belhus were quickly 6 for 2 losing Teddy Waters and our 2nd top run scorer this season, Michael Cansdale, for 0 and 1.
Chris Didd and young Riley Everett then steady the ship before Riley fell for 15, Dylan Sinfield and Alfie Ware went cheaply too and Belhus teetered at 65 for 5 in 12 overs.
But Didd with a fine 50 to his name, including 9 fours then got out straight after, but confirmed he would end up the clubs 3rd highest run scorer this season, leaving us on 92 for 6, Young Louie Mailey fell for 19 and that was 100 for 7.
Skipper Wayne Read and Martin Mailey batted for what felt like an eternity, but the total crept up and at 148, we felt we might be in with a shout, if we bowled well, even though the skipper would have liked more.
The Orsett innings didn't start as planned as Alfie Ware produced a fine run out, then it was time for Tyler Robertson to enter the arena and shatter Orsett's hope of a win, with career best figures of 5 for 15 with 1 maiden in 5 overs, taking 4 wickets in one over including a hat trick and was also the maiden, first to go was Zac Wilson with a great catch from Dylan Sinfield, a dot ball, then Tyler bowled Steve Thomas, he then cleaned out Greg Mendham too and finally had Jack Hart plumb LBW and leave Orsett reeling at 23 for 6 and effectively game over.
Alfie Ware then picked up a wicket with his first ball, Callam Green for 18 and last ball of his first over Rob Bundock 0 and Orsett were in even more trouble at 50 for 8. Alfie then grabbed his third wicket with the total at 75 for 9.
John Wilson and Kian Flood batted wisely and well and began to mount a come back, but losing 9 wickets for 75, they still need as many to win and if the 9 men before them couldn't do it this was always going to be some ask for them, they took the score to 121 before Wilson finally lost his concentration and went for the big one and was bowled by Teddy Waters for a good 47 with 8 fours, giving us the win by some 27 runs.
But it was Tyler's day and one he will remember for sometime and it also took him to 55 wickets in total for all age games this season, the second highest in the club.
