Match report
U11-13s Tour Game 4 - Fakenham
After a journey of what felt like 4 days (it was only 75mins, but jeeeeeeez) we finally arrived at Fakenham CC ready for our 4th game on tour.
As with tour tradition we lost the toss and Fakenham decided to bat.
The first few overs suggested they made a good decision.
With John, Sam, Lewys and Oli taking the first 8 overs between them, Fakenham managed to put on 66 runs from the first 8 overs.
Our lads didn’t bowl badly at all, infact one of John’s overs only went for 1 run, it was simply because of the excellent batting from the home team.
Overs 9-11 where bowled by Riley (2) and Ben (1) and these lads showed their experience hugely to restrict Fakenham to 76 for no loss at drinks.
In the sheds at drinks we had a chat with the lads and tried to fire them up a little and explain that although Fakenham had made a decent start we were very much still in this game.
The first ball after drinks resulted in Ben picking up his and the teams first wicket of the day and then got his second with the last ball of his over, finishing with figures of 2 overs, 2 wickets for 6 runs.
Reuben and Alfie came on to bowl overs 13-16 and both bowled wonderfully and kept their lines tight and didn’t give much away to the home batsmen.
Louie, Dylan and James M bowled the final 6 overs between them and as well as making it hard for Fakenham to score, they also picked up 4 wickets between them too.
Those 6 overs went for just 32 runs for the loss of 4 wickets, Louie getting 2 and Dylan and James M getting one each.
The tighter bowling in the second half of the game allowed us to restrict Fakenham to a net score of 117.
We began our run chase with John and Sam opening, both boys batted well and made sure their calling was loud and clear.
Next in were Lewys and Reuben and although the running and calling continued, Reuben also took on the home bowing top scoring with 15 which included 3 boundaries.
Oli and Ben were in at 5 and 6 and they both continued to take on the home team too. Both scored wonderful boundaries which helped take us closer to our target.
The confidence in team was flying at this moment and Alfie, Riley and Louie scored a hat full of runs between them to put James M and Dylan in a position to try and allow us to win.
Dylan and James M still had lots to do but the hard work from their teammates gave them a chance.
Both batted superbly and got us into a position where we needed 15 from the final 6 balls and then down to 8 from 3.
However the death bowling from Fakenham was superb and allowed them to pick up the win
Due to getting his 2 wickets for
6 runs Ben was awarded our “moment of the match”. His 2 wickets really kicked started us in that bowling innings and allowed us to keep Fakenham to catchable total.
Sam and Riley were also awarded the match balls due to their fantastic work in the field.
Kindest of regards
Scott, Martin, Glenn and Ryan
