Match report
U11-13s Tour Game 3 - Brooke
Gathering the troops at Brooke, our side were hugely looking forward to the only T20, normal cricket rules game of the tour.
After the warm up was completed, it was time for the toss.
For the third time running we were lost the toss but this time were put into bowl by today’s opposition.
James M and Ben opened the bowling, with Ben picking up the teams first wicket in the 2nd over. Both lads bowled well, it was just so unfortunate that they were facing some exceptional batsmen.
This theme continued when Riley and Reuben bowled overs 5-8. There line and lengths were pretty much on point, but the Brooke batsmen were able to rotate the strike or play excellent shots to get boundaries.
Alfie came on to bowl over 9. Making his full debut on tour and his debut this week after injury Alfie took a wicket with his first ball with an LBW.
Alfie’s second over also got a wicket for the team, with Ben taking an excellent catch at short third man. This left Alfie with figures of 2-11.
“Fans favourite” (we will explain why later) John bowled in tandem with Alfie and similarly to some of the lads before him, bowled superbly but was facing batsmen who were able to play all different kinds of shots to keep the scoreboard ticking over.
Captain Dylan brought himself on for one over and managed to get a wicket with his 3rd ball. Dylan would also bowl the 19th over as a maiden to end with figures of 1-5.
During Sophie’s bowling spell she again did very well with her line and length and got an excellent wicket in her second over, bowling her opposing batsman out.
Ronnie and James P bowled one over each and again both bowled well against excellent batsmen.
Two of the last 3 overs were bowled by Louie. As expected his bowling was excellent and he ended with figures of 0-10.
The home side finished on 161 for 5 and had additionally had two batsmen retire due to scoring well earlier in the innings.
After a quick bite to eat Belhus set about the run chase with Riley and Louie opening.
If we thought the Brooke batting was good, then their bowling was also very impressive.
They managed to pick up the wickets of Riley and Louie very early, with the lads getting an LBW and bowled respectively. Riley’s one in particular was a nasty one as he took a blow directly to the ankle, was given out and had to be helped off the field.
Replacing Riley was Alfie and he himself batted very well with James M when he came in.
James M played some excellent shots and the running between the wicket from both lads was superb.
When Alfie was caught out, Dylan came in and him and James both continued to hit boundaries at will and this included a monster 6 from Dylan too.
Once James M and Dylan retired at 25 and 27, Ben and Reuben came to the crease.
Having told everyone before heading onto the field that he was going to block the first few balls to see himself in, Reuben smacked his first two balls for two exceptional 4s.
Ben himself played wonderfully with some excellent shots and superb running between the wicket and ended the game not out.
After Reuben was bowled, Sophie came in and to her credit faced some rather fast bowling. After blocking the first two balls, her third on got chopped on and Brooke had picked up their 3rd wicket.
The last batsman to come to the crease was John.
John is one of our U11s and show’s great enthusiasm at all opportunities, is a great young lad and an excellent cricketer.
He was facing their death bowlers all of which were very quick.
When he came off the field us as a management team thought maybe he would’ve not enjoyed that too much, however the smile on his face should he enjoyed it and when asked he exclaimed “I don’t care how fast it was, I loved it”. It was that comment and his enthusiasm which I hear has got him a lot of attention from some of the female members of the tour party, hence now becoming the fan’s favourite. Before writing this report we asked for John’s reply to these rumours……….but his management company advised that he was “unavailable to comment”. It is believed he has also started to charge for autographs and photos too.
John like Ben ended the innings not out. Belhus ended on 110, giving the home side a victory of 51 runs.
After his excellent knock today and getting bowling figures of 1-3, the opposition gave the Moment of the Match award to Dylan.
After the presentation Dylan approached the managers and advised that he felt Reubens display in today’s game deserved the award and Dylan himself decided to award the MoM to Reuben for his excellent display with the bat against Brooke. This shows great maturity and leadership from Dylan.
Moment of the match - Reuben for his excellent display with the bat today.
The match ball was presented to James P for his superb block in the field where he took a flush drive at point on the hand which surely stopped a boundary.
Additional match balls were given to Dylan and James M due to their batting efforts today both retiring on 27 and 25 respectively.
Kindest of regards
