Ashmanhaugh & Barton Wanderers CC v Belhus Cricket Club Youth Tour on Mon 02 Aug 2021 at 11:00
Belhus Cricket Club Won By 32 Runs

Match report U11-13s Tour Game 1 - Ashmanhaugh

After travelling up on Sunday and sampling the delights of the local Brewers Fayre……both the kitchen and more importantly the bar, we set off refreshed on our 20min journey to Ashmanhaugh.

Once at the ground we mingled with the rest of the team and parents and exchanged stories on how early some had left Essex or how many beverages had been sampled on the previous night in the hotels in and around Norwich.

Anyway…….the cricket…….

Ashmanhaugh won the toss and decided to bowl first.

The opening pair for the visitors were John & Ronnie who were making their tour debuts also.
They did the perfect job that you ask of an opening batsmen, they saw off the new ball and neither of them lost a wicket.
John getting 4 and although Ronnie didn’t score off the bat, he played wonderfully straight which shows he has learned that in the nets at North Stifford.

Lewys came in next and managed to nick a couple of singles off the bat for the loss of just one wicket.

In fourth was Reuben who was also making his debut on tour. He took his U11s form into this game too and managed a knock of 15 which included three consecutive boundaries from the home teams spinner.

Oli Davy came in at the unusual position for him of fifth and really took it to the home teams bowlers. Oli managed 19 off his 12 balls which included a huge 6 and is his highest knock of the season.

At 6 and 7, Sam and Ben came out to bat and dug their heels in against some excellent bowling. Sam managed 1 run off the bat for the loss of 1 wicket and Ben scored 7, which included six consecutive singles.

James M and Dylan were soon at the crease and during their 24 balls scored 30 runs. They really lead by example with their batting with James making it hard for the Ashmanhaugh bowlers to trouble him and scoring 11, while Dylan bludgeoned his way to 19 which included one big six and three 4s.

When Louie came into bat at 10 and hit his first ball for a 4, we knew we in for a treat. He top scored with a 22 that included four boundaries.

By the time Riley came in at 11, he was needing to face 12 of the final 13 balls and did so very well. He managed to pick up 6 runs during his 12 balls and but for some decent fielding from Ashmanhaugh it could’ve been more.

Belhus ended with 139 runs for a loss of 11 wickets. As we are playing terrier cricket on tour, this game Belhus a net score of 306.

After a sandwich, drink and a bit of rest, it was time for Belhus to set about defending their score.

Like in the batting innings John and Ronnie opened the bowling and managed to restrict the home side to 19 runs for a loss of 2 wickets.
John finishing his spell with 2 overs, 0 maidens, 1 wicket for 2 runs (the second wicket was a run out), which would eventually get him the chance on taking home the match ball. John’s wicket was also the result of a good catch from
Oli.

Lewys and Oli bowled overs 5-8 and you could see how well they perform together in tandem.
Both boys had a maiden first over too.
Lewys finished with figures of 0-2 from 2 overs (1 maiden) and Oli had 1-6 from 2 overs (1 wicket maiden).

During the overs 9-12 Riley and Sam bowled and boy did they bowl wonderfully. Their 4 overs were only at a loss of 19 runs and both lads took 2 great wickets each too.
Riley’s two were from the result of bowling the batsmen twice and Sam’s were due to a great catch from Oli and Louie.

Reuben and Ben were next into bowl as per usual bowled with great precision. Only 19 runs were conceded during that time for the loss of 2 wickets, with Ben bowling one batsmen and the second being a run out.

With 6 overs to go Ashmanhaugh needed to get a total of 69 more runs to win the game, which is something that bowlers James M, Dylan and Louie simply would not allow them to get easily.
However they faced some excellent batting from the Ashmanhaugh tail end, which made the end result closer than it had appeared.

James and Dylan’s four overs were at the expense of 19 runs without taking a wicket, however runs were only scored off the bat from 7 of the 24 balls they produced.

Louie was there to clean up the innings for Belhus by taking two wickets for the loss of 23 runs which included a wicket on the last ball of the game coming from a catch in the deep from Dylan.

Ashmanhaugh ended their innings with 107 runs for a loss of 11 wickets. Therefore a net score of 274, giving Belhus a 32 run victory.

After the cricket had finished the management team Martin, Glenn, Scott and Ryan had to choose a player for their “Moment of the Match” who would then receive a trophy.

For his knock of 19 (his highest this season), two catches, two run outs and for bowling a wicket maiden also, the winner of this award for Monday, was Oliver Davy.

Congrats to Oli and well done to all for starting the tour off on a high.

The match ball was also awarded to John for his excellent bowing display.

Kindest of Regards
Martin, Scott , Glenn and Ryan.
