Orsett & Thurrock v Belhus Cricket Club Sunday 2nd XI on Sun 02 Aug 2020 at 1.30pm
Belhus Cricket Club Lost by 48 Runs
Match report
Belhus Sun II's were completely outclassed in this friendly 40 over encounter. Electing to bat, Orsett made swift progress with Lockyer and A.Brazier realising 65 for the 1st wkt. Greg Mendham made 30 until well caught by young Sammy Fairweather at short third man. Fifties from Sat 1st teamers Mitchell and McCartney in the middle order saw Orsett close on a very good 254 for 7 off their allotted overs. The few bright interludes were Jamie Fairweather whose first over went for 12 conceding just 26 runs off 7 overs, and newcomer Muhammad Javed who again bowled a poor 1st over but recovered to claim 3 for 48 off his allotment of eight. Michael Cansdale also bowled well to concede 20 from 7 as a 10 man outfit (till we got a sub after 19 overs) struggled badly with mobility in the field.
In reply the top order failed with the exception of the fast improving Robert Healey who struck a hard hit 71 and at 18 for 2 and latter 55 for 3 the game had realistically gone and pride only was at stake. Only S.Mushtaq a late replacement at No 7 (who was not in the original team sheet) with a hard hit 40 and Jamie Fairweather who made 15, (at No 5) 15 n.o. from tailender Cliff Cansdale and 30 extras gave Belhus some respectability to close on 206 for 9 in a game they were sadly never likely to win.
Tx to Martin for umpiring and Cliff for turning up injured, not letting the side down and for scoring until he had to bat! We need to consider balancing the sides on a Sunday looking at the oppositions we are playing some weeks. It is also great to be getting two sides out as well (Mike.R)
