Belhus Cricket Club Sunday 2nd XI v South Weald on Sun 25 Jun 2017 at 2pm
Belhus Cricket Club Won by 1 Wicket
Match report
After a close game 2 weeks ago, Belhus hosted South Weald again at North Stifford in what turned out to be a thriller of a game.
Batting first, South Weald got off to a flying start, due to a few chances going down and D.Butterman took full advantage of them to score a smashing 66 with 13 fours, support from M.Haddock 18 and A.Savage 25 and T.Traud 42 helped South Weald to 188, as yet again the young Belhus attack bowled really well to restrict them to this, assisted by the experience of C.Cansdale. S.George, B.Bunce both took 2 wickets, 1 each for R.Goulden and L.Young and C.Cansdale picking up 3.
The Belhus innings could not have got off to a worse start, losing both M.Cansdale and L.Waters in the first over both for zero. This brought together M.Randall and J.Clarke, who batted lovely to score 41, Randall carried on and was supported by L.Young (8), S.George (19) and R.Goulden (7) taking the score up to 135 for 7. This brought W.Read to the wicket with the game still in the balance with Belhus still wanting 53 to win. M.Randall finally fell for a fine 60, with the score at 167 for 8, B.Bunce came to the wicket only to fall 1st ball.
So Belhus still needed 22 to win and the game was panning out to be very close either way. C.Cansdale held his end up as the game went to the final over with Belhus needing only 3 to win. W.Read hit a single off the first ball as they could not get back for two, leaving C.Cansdale to face then 3 dot balls and the pressure was on, but Cliff managed to squirt a single, so the score was tied with one ball left which Read hit for four to secure the victory in what was an absolute thriller of a game.
