Belhus Cricket Club Won by 19 Runs

Match report Belhus played Mayfield at North Stifford on this lovely sunny afternoon in late September, more than 20 years since they last played each other.

Young Zak Wilson skippering for the first time, won the toss and elected to bat first in this 35 over game. Don East and Zak went early, but Michael Cansdale and young Robert Healy (playing his first senior game) steadied the ship with a fine 48 partnership, Cansdale scoring a good 53. Read and Robertson Snr then put on a good 61, taking us to 176 before falling in consecutive balls, the innings closing on a competitive 186 for 9. R.Sondh was the pick of the Mayfield bowlers with 4 for 27.

In reply, S.Kazi batted lovely for his 97 and deserved a hundred, but it wasn't to be as he was tempted by the spin bowling of Michael Cansdale as he went for the big shot looking for a six and was caught in the deep by Jamie Fairweather. Had he stayed he may well have won the game for Mayfield, but they fell 19 runs short. A.Jain was the only other Mayfield batsmen to reach double figures with 21.

Young Tyler Robertson bowled really well and picked up 2 wickets for 21 runs off 6 overs, one caught behind and the other clean bowled, but all the bowlers bowled well. Skipper Zak Wilson took 4 for 29 to ensure the Belhus win and young Robert Healy kept wicket very nicely too in what was a really good game, played in excellent fashion by both sides and enjoyed by all.
