Belhus Cricket Club Sunday 2nd XI v Cor et Anima on Sun 17 Jul 2016 at 2pm
Belhus Cricket Club Won by 3 Wickets
Match report
Belhus Sunday 2s put in an excellent all-round team performance in this 40 over encounter v Cor Et Anima on Sunday.
Electing to bat, the visitors progressed steadily to reach 38 for 2 off the first 10 overs with the ever-improving Billy Maidment conceding just 16 runs and taking 2 wickets from his allotted 8 overs. No. 3 Shakil then proceeded to score a century (having been dropped first ball) in a stand of 142 with No. 4 Falsal. A score of 250-plus looked likely with wickets in hand, but the introduction of 'slow merchants' Randall and the re-introduction of newcomer Adam Dudmish for a second spell who claimed three wickets in one over taking the pace off the ball paid dividends. The final 9 overs realised just 30 runs and cost 4 wickets as the middle order fell away cheaply. Cor Et Anima closed on a disappointing 194 for 7 off their 40 overs when they appeared well placed to score considerably more.
In reply, Belhus got off to a great start. Jack Plane and Keith Dhannie both in good form, severe on loose deliveries in a first wicket stand of 58 in 10 overs. However, Plane unluckily chopped a wide long-hop onto his stumps when looking well set for an excellent 31 as he continued his current good form. No. 3 George Maidment joined Dhannie until the former was bowled for a good 30 by one that kept low when looking set. At this point the innings lost momentum as George Maidment struggled to find form still making 15 and then the cheap loss of youngster Zak Wilson who played across the line. Double figure contributions from Wayne Read and Liam Waters helped the cause but at 116 for 4 and later, 128 for 5 off 29 overs, the game was in the balance. This climbed at one stage to almost eight an over. However, Steve Huckstepp and Adam Dudmish with good shot selection and fantastic running between the wickets and one good over (the 35th) which conceded 15 runs, all but won the game when Huckstepp stroked the fourth ball of that penultimate over to the cover boundary for a good Belhus win with 8 balls remaining.
Thanks to Julie for scoring and another excellent Peter Bright wicket - and Hucky who kept wicket and might be a bit stiff next week! Well played Belhus.
