Belhus Cricket Club Sunday 2nd XI v Locksbottom on Sun 19 Jun 2016 at 2pm
Belhus Cricket Club Won by 60 Runs
Match report
Electing to bat in this 40 over friendly encounter v Locksbotton at North Stifford, the Belhus 2s batting line-up found the pitch very much to their liking despite the recent wet weather.
Runs flowed off the bats of the top four as the in-form Jack Plane (50) and consistent Keith Dhannie (47) realised exactly 100 for the 1st wicket until Plane miscued for exactly fifty. A brief stand of 28 between Randall (his first bat for 3 weeks - it showed!) and Dhannie, until the latter was bowled trying to 'up the tempo' when looking well set. Sam Hall then joined Randall in a stand of 81 until Randall was bowled for 55 after an easy let-off in the thirties going for a big hit. Sam Hall continued his current good form by making a good 53 not out including two 6s. The only top order failure was Jack Martin-Hussey who departed for 3. This brought young Zak Wilson to the crease and with 6 wickets in hand gave him a licence to swing, smashing a very quick 32 n.o. as Belhus closed on an excellent total of 264 for 4.
In reply, the Locksbottom openers T.Stock (48) and C.Trevatt (41) played well and at 91 for no wicket off 19 overs they were well placed. However, medium-pacer Baiju Mohammed, playing his first game, had other ideas claiming five top and middle-order wickets as the wheels 'fell off' the run-chase. With Jack Martin-Hussey claiming two quick wickets, the score slumped to 116 for 7 off 29 overs. Numbers 8 and 9, Habgood and J.Thompson, gave it a real go with some entertaining hitting and bowling figures suffered as 88 came off the final 11 overs. It was a case of too little too late.
Locksbottom closed on a respectable 204 for 9 to give us a comfortable 60 runs home win. Keith Dhannie did another good job behind the stumps. Belhus bowled just two wides and conceded eight byes in a good fielding performance. There were also 5 penalty runs in the Belhus innings when the ball struck the helmet.
Thanks to Peter Bright for a good pitch despite the recent wet weather and Julie for scoring.
