Belhus Cricket Club Sunday 2nd XI v Old Fallopians on Sun 05 Jun 2016 at 2pm
Belhus Cricket Club Lost by 50 Runs
Match report
Former Belhus player Sohail Shahid had no hesitation in batting first in this 40 over friendly encounter v Old Fallopians at North Stifford. Initially the Belhus bowling was accurate with Billy Maidment and Jack Plane opening up, the latter in the absence of George Maidment who was running late as Belhus initially fielded ten with Jack Plane conceding just 11 runs from his four-over spell. The departure of opener Will Thompson for a good 28 brought Chelmsford's overseas (and former Pakistan under 19) player Kamart Ali to the crease who smashed our bowling to all parts in scoring 130 after a couple of let-offs as young Braydon Scarlett and newcomer Russ Blackburn who had not bowled for some time suffered. With opener Ravi Mathuran hitting 62, and middle order contributions from Nos. 4 and 5 Shahid and Hudson with 21 and 27 respectively Fallopians closed on an imposing 294 for 5.
In reply, Belhus lost opener Huckstepp to a good outswinger and Russ Blackburn departed cheaply for 10, again caught by the wicketkeeper to one that kept low. This brought Keith Dhannie to the crease to join make-shift opener Jack Plane. This pair put on 109 for the third wicket as the score reached 136 off the 21st over and with a strong batting line up to come. Could an astonishing win be 'pulled off? Despite an excellent 52 from the ever-improving George Maidment and a fantastic maiden century of 121 n.o from Jack Plane who continues to bat well and who has now 'arrived', the match fizzled out into a tame defeat with the home side closing on 244 for the loss of just 5 wickets.
