Match report Electing to bat in this 40 over friendly encounter, Belhus Sunday 2s made a slow start against steady bowling from the Taverners as openers Morris and Randall struggled to find form on a used pitch that offered the odd trick on a good length - the opening 7 overs realising just 14 runs! The demise of Morris for 7 to a loose shot brought Sam Hall to the crease. Hall fresh from a match- winning 40 the previous day. Although cautious at first, he found conditions to his liking playing some good shots to score an excellent 50 including a massive straight six until he mis-cued to a ball that stopped and skied one to square leg for a good catch to be taken, the second wicket partnership realising 112.

At this point Belhus were been well placed to score 200 plus. The very next ball, however, Randall who was tiring (after a black tie diner the previous night) played a tired shot, trying to run a ball to third man and was bowled. The Belhus No.5 Jack Thomas then found himself on a hatrick! However, Jack survived and managed a swift 34 not out. With a dozen from Josh Clarke the Belhus innings closed on a respectable 181 for 5.

For Taverners, L.Shearcroft grabbed two quick wickets and was on a hat trick and M.Brown was very economical conceding just 16 runs from his allotted 8 overs.

In reply, the Taverners innings got off to a flyer. The first four overs yielding 32 runs as the ball went to all parts as the bowlers struggled with a wet ball due to a heavy shower at tea. This thankfully, stopped although the sky looked threatening. Two good catches to remove both openers, the first, outstanding by Ryan Prendergast at square leg off a Billy Maidment long hop (you need a bit of luck sometimes) and one nearly as good low down and well hit at mid off by under 15 Josh Clarke changed the game. With the bowlers now hitting their length, runs became harder to find. Although Max Sud at No. 3 made a useful 41, his demise bowled by the ever-improving Josh Clarke removed any realistic chance of a Taverners victory as the only other major contribution came from No. 6 Rising who made a brisk 23 as Belhus held all their catches. With Josh Clarke and Sam Hall bowling in tandem - conceding just 30 runs from their combined 15 overs and taking 5 wickets in the process - removing any last chance of a home defeat.

It was left finally to 'one ball' Stuart Morris to take the final wicket when his first ball of the last over was hit straight to Mike Randall. Cliff Cansdale again bowled well conceding just 23 runs from 8 overs given his first two had cost 12. Josh Clarke also took 3 outfield catches to complete a very good personal day. Well played Belhus but a few too many extras were conceded again. It then poured with rain!
