Horton Kirby v Belhus Cricket Club Sunday 2nd XI on Sun 01 May 2016 at 2pm
Belhus Cricket Club Won by 38 Runs

Match report The sun came out as Belhus Sunday 2s made the short trip to the picturesque Horton Kirby ground in a rare all 2nd XI encounter with both clubs fielding a 1st XI on the day.

After winning the toss, Belhus elected to bat in this 40 overs encounter on what looked a decent pitch. The first three batsmen of Randall, Dhannie and Zak Wilson failed to trouble the scorers in scoring 11 between them as Belhus stumbled to 18 for 3 off 11 overs. However, Jack Plane, fresh from a Golden Duck the previous day, played a positive innings of 38 until he 'holed out' on the deep square leg boundary. He was well supported by the ever-improving George Maidment who made 27 until he drilled a ball hard to cover as the 4th wicket realised 65. John Wilson 'bursting for a bat' played a typical Wilson-like innings of 52 with some lusty blows until he ran out of puff and was bowled - the 5th wicket realising a further 42. The talented Ben Garwood (18 n.o.) supported by Jamie Fairweather added a further 30 for the 7th wicket as Belhus closed on a respectable 176 for 7 to redeem a somewhat poor start. For HK, Reece Clow took 3 for 15 off his 8 overs supported well by John Treeweek with 2 for 20 off 5 overs.

In reply, the HK innings failed to take off as the bounce became characteristically lower making scoring more difficult as the Belhus bowling maintained good line and length. At the 20-overs mark, HK were only 51 for 3 as the miserly Cansdale continued good form in conceding just 17 runs from his 8 overs and a wicket via a good Ben Garwood catch. With young Billy Maidment bowling with great accuracy conceding just 16 runs from his allotment and Jamie Fairweather showing great promise with 8 runs from 6 overs, a total of 176 was to prove a difficult challenge, and so it proved. Although No.6 batsman John Treeweek with a hard hit 46 not out and skipper Nick Toomey (22) gave it a 'Good Go', it was too little too late. With 10 an over required from the final 10 overs, this proved a bridge too far as Jack Plane and George Maidment continued consistent bowling for the Belhus attack coupled with good field placing saw HK close on 138 for 7 to lose by 38 runs. Young Liam Waters continues to improve but the third bye he let through hit his helmet to cost 5 penalty runs!

A good performance by Belhus although some of the outfield cricket could have been improved. Too many extras (25) - only 8 last week. Well played Belhus.
