Match report Belhus were inserted on a breezy afternoon at Harold Wood Park. The visitors started brightly with Tom Thompson in fine form but the Wood bowlers slowly strangled the Belhus charge. Thompson made a fluent 54 and looked in little trouble but his departure triggered a succession of wickets as Eades (3-29) and Pickett (2-31) suffocated the Belhus effort on a slow, drying track. Jack Plane played nicely for 45 and there was some late resistance from Peter Clark (20 not out) but Belhus would have hoped for more from their 52 overs than their total of 177-8.

Harold Wood replied solidly with Palfreyman (36) and Faram (18) getting them off to a useful start. Belhus workhorse Alan Maidment was the main threat taking 4-42 from a sterling spell of 17 overs which gave Belhus hope as the home side fell to 84-4 but the rest of the Belhus attack could make little headway and when Ali hit muscularly to make a rapid 65, that innings proved the difference on such a stifling surface. Wood came home by 5 wickets and deserved their win in a game played in fine spirit. Belhus picked up eight points from this league clash and will hope to improve their form next week when Chingford visit the Rec.
