Dulwich v Belhus Cricket Club Sunday 2nd XI on Sun 14 Sep 2014 at 1pm
Match was Drawn
Match report
In a 'contrived' toss by skipper Randall it was suggested the home side should bat first in this friendly encounter at the picturesque Dulwich ground.
Both openers went for their shots until George Maidment produced a 'good un' to re-arrange opener Edwards' furniture for 10. At this stage the Belhus attack of George Maidment and Jack Martin-Hussey bowled well, the latter conceding just 15 runs from 7 overs. The introduction of the wily Cansdale and the swift Jack Plane produced immediate dividends as the home side slumped to 50 for 5 with No.3 Galton making a fluent 26 until he was bowled by Plane who sent down just two overs taking 2 for 4. A rout looked possible as Cansdale had the opportunity of a hat-trick. Young Billy Maidment sent down two overs that cost 24 runs including a huge six. Dulwich then declared on a very sporting 178 for 6 having faced just 36 overs. The last 11 overs of the innings yielding 104 runs.
In reply, Belhus made a poor start with Toby Reynolds holing out to mid-off and young Billy Turley bowled by a grubber. However, young Zak Wilson came to the crease showing great maturity as Jack Plane and then John Wilson departed cheaply as Belhus laboured on 27 for 4. Young Billy Maidment then came to the crease also showing great maturity scoring an excellent 33 with shots up the ground and through mid-wicket as the Wilson/Maidment partnership realised 47 for the 5th wicket for Belhus to reach 74 for 5. Randall departed cheaply when he played early to a long hop but George Maidment then compiled an excellent 20 n.o. and Jack Martin-Hussey a quick 16. Cliff "the barnacle" Cansdale then joined Maidment to earn a draw to close on 125 for 8 some 53 runs adrift.
For once the Belhus batting showed some resolve occupying 50 overs with the main players scoring just 10 runs between them. Well done to the Maidment brothers and young Zak Wilson (one for the future).
