Belhus Cricket Club Sunday 2nd XI v Chingford 2nd X1 on Sun 01 Sep 2013 at 1pm
Match was Drawn
Match report
Electing to bat in this friendly time encounter, Belhus scored steadily with the first wicket between Robertson and Randall(12) realising 37. Matthew Williams promoted to No. 3 became the victim of that "Ockendon grubber" to be bowled for 0. This brought the ever-improving Greg Mendham to the crease who proceded to smash the bowling to all parts compiling an excellent fifty at better than a run a ball in a good stand with Jim Robertson who also made exactly 50 runs. He then played one big shot too many to be bowled. Double figure contributions from Wilson (16), Andrew Williams, (10) Plane,(26) and George Maidment (23) with some lusty blows towards the end enabled Belhus to close on a competitive 240 for 9 off just 43 overs.
In reply, opener Rehman showed intent as he went for his shots smashing Maidment for an early boundary. He tried this again next ball only to have his furniture re-arranged by the youngster. Fellow opener Mike Blake scored a solid half century but it took 30 overs, far too slow an innings for Chingford to mount a serious challenge. No. 3 Holdworth went for his shots until the ever-improving Ryan Prendergast found a good length tying him down. He was eventually well caught by "Scissor hands" Mendham pressurised by the slow scoring of his partner Blake attempting a big hit to raise the tempo. At 90 for 3 off 30 overs, there appeared only one result and so it was to prove. No. 4 Peter Warren gave Chingford slight respectability attempting to "up the anti" with a well hit 40 off 28 balls including a huge six even though he was dropped three times. Despite friendly bowling with 24 overs of spin, Chingford allowed the run rate to reach 10 an over for the last 15 overs and the game fizzled out into the tamest of draws. Belhus gained a moral victory having bowled 45 overs back - two more than they received, Chingford closing on 165 for 5 still 75 runs adrift. Belhus tried eight bowlers in a bid to gain a result but to no avail. The ever improving Paul Newton did a good job behind the stumps conceding just 1 bye. Thanks goes to Peter Bright for his work on the ground prior to the match and Julie Whitlock for helping Denise Randall with the teas and then scoring the Chingford innings, Thanks Julie.
