Match report Electing to bowl in this 40 over encounter v Abridge the visitors made a steady start with the ball on what proved to be a good wicket. Initially runs were hard to come by, as were wickets, but openers M. Curtis and I. Ashton dug in by making 48 and 34 respectively. Belhus eventually made the breakthrough with Stonham bowling Ashton for 34 but steady batting and two further contributions of 34 from Padfield and skipper Keiren Hogan saw Abridge close on a respectable 209 for 8 on a small ground. For Belhus, all bowlers had success with Maidment and Whitlock bowling particularly well with the later an opportunity for a hat-trick off the last ball of his second spell. Veteran Wilf Gansbuhler also bowled well to initially slow the run rate.

In reply, the Belhus innings never got started with just 31 from the first 11 overs as good shots from Thompson consistently found the field. Efforts to step on the accelerator where blocked by the Abridge "spud up the exhaust" as the reply spluttered. Keith Dhannie departed cheaply but Stonham (21) threatened for a time to break the shackles until he was run out by Paul Newton. John Wilson tried hard with a cameo 24, but with the ball now keeping low, wickets falling and good bowling and fielding from the home side, Belhus reached a disappointing 162 for 8. Opener Tom Thompson made 32 and Mike Randall an academic 17 n.o. at No. 9 to achieve slight respectability in a game that Belhus never looked like winning. For Abridge, J.Morris conceded 15 runs from his 8 overs and D.Powell 24 runs from 6 overs.
