This match could hardly have been closer as the pendulum made a dramatic late swing in favour of the home side. It was Geoff Gullett and James Hogger, Stanford's last pair, who gamely held on for their slender win. Stanford had won a crucial toss and elected to field after heavy rain on a "pudding of a wicket barely playable The decision appeared to be fully justified as the visitors slumped to 92 all out, despite a solid 42 from opener Mike Randall. Only two other Belhus batsmen reached double figures, being Scott Stonham with 14 and Elliott Playle with ten runs. Stanford's Clive Ballard wreaked havoc in the Belhus ranks with 6-12 from 12 overs, half of which were maidens.

After tea, Belhus made a fight on a drying pitch with runs still hard to come by on an improving pitch to reduce Stanford to 10 for 2 with Mike Randall taking an amazing one handed catch at silly mid off the bowling of Paul Hall to dismiss their No 3 bat 1st ball!! Jono Symes struck 20, opener David Ashley contributed 15 while Ballard hit 18. Then five costly penalty runs were correctly credited to the Stanford score after the Belhus wicketkeeper missed the ball which struck the helmet positioned on the ground behind him. Alan Maidment was the most productive Belhus bowler with 4-18 from a dozen overs (four maidens) while Paul Hall and Robert Long collected two wickets
