Belhus Cricket Club Sunday 2nd XI v Rettendon on Sun 07 Jul 2013 at 2pm
Belhus Cricket Club Lost by 6 Wickets
Match report
Belhus 2s elected to bat in this re-arranged 40-over encounter against Rettenden on Sunday at North Stifford. They were soon in trouble at 28 for 3 due to a couple of loose shots. However, along came young Ewan Day at No. 5 to hit his maiden senior 50 including a first ever 'six'. To prove this was no fluke the following ball was despatched for an even bigger one. He was finally out Lbw when he mis-judged a straight full toss. The recovery continued further when young Sam Hall joined No. 8 Ryan Prendergast. He too hit his first senior 50 finishing on 58 not out in a 7th wicket stand of 104. A much-improved Prendergast contributed 38 - his top score too with Belhus closing on a respectable 225 for 7.
In reply, the Rettendon innings started sedately with two early wickets for young Sam Hall the man of the moment. The second to a stunning one-handed catch by Mike Randall at slip inches off the floor as Rettendon tottered. However this brought in No. 4 Chris Huntingdon a former England Under 19 player who hit a remarkable 152 n.o despatching our bowlers to all parts and being especially severe on Connor Day who went for 56 off 5 overs. Mike Randall had a bowl when no-one else wanted to and removed opener Abrehart for 59 and then Ryan Prendergast had a go - nearly turning the game when he could have dismissed both run-scorers in one over. Rettendon eventually won comfortably by 6 wickets in a great game of cricket with landmarks passed by several Belhus players. Well done to them all.
Huntingdon's innings was one of the best by an opposition player seen at North Stifford for some time.
