Old Chelmsfordians v Belhus Cricket Club Sunday 2nd XI on Sun 04 Aug 2013 at 1pm
Belhus Cricket Club Lost by 6 Runs
Match report
Old Chelmsfordians 242-6
Belhus 236-5
Belhus 2's were narrowly beaten by a decent Old Chelmsfordians outfit in this Warsop league match. Electing to bat, the home side made a steady start against tight bowling but no breakthrough was made. Opener R.Wickham batted well for his 62 as the first wicket realised 60. J.Wickham then joined his brother to hit a good 69 despite being dropped at mid-on to a reasonable chance. With wickets in hand the accelerator was pressed especially by No. 5 R.Lee who slogged his way to a rapid 46 not out spoiling Belhus bowling figures - the last 10 overs yielding 90 runs against, at times, some disappointing fielding as the home side closed on a good 242 for 5 from their allotted 40 overs. The best bowling returns came from Sam Hall with 1 for 29 off 7 overs, young Andrew Williams conceding just 20 off 5 overs.Matt Williams also bowled well but without success.
In reply, Belhus 2s got off to a flyer with Danny Norris hitting the bowling to all parts in a rapid 44. The introduction of 1st team opening bowler J.Wickham saw Norris tie himself in a knot after hitting him for two good boundaries to offer an easy catch to square leg. Fellow opener Jack Day played the anchor role with 70 not out and although wickets fell at regular intervals, Belhus somehow kept in the hunt with Greg Mendham (18) going for his shots. 9 runs an over were required from the last 8 overs as Jack Plane hit a good 47, only to see them fall just 6 runs short but with 5 wickets still in hand! The home side had to rely on another 1st team bowler to ensure victory in a closely fought contest. For Old Chelmsfordians, J.Wickham took 1 for 36 off 8 overs and youngster J. Cordova 2 for 26 off 4 overs and OC generously presented Belhus with a total of 51 extras including 29 wides!
