Belhus Cricket Club Sunday 2nd XI v Willingale on Sun 02 Jun 2013 at 2pm
Belhus Cricket Club Won by 153 Runs
Match report
A solid looking Belhus 2's batting line up fired on all cylinders in their 40 over encounter v Willingale at Ockendon Rec on Sunday. They amassed a season's best 283 for 3 on what proved to be a good batting wicket. Chris Baker was severe on anything loose making a fluent 67 until he played down the wrong line to be stumped. Fellow opener and club president Jim Robertson was cautious to begin with against some good bowling from Willingale paceman Torvil (who conceded just 20 runs from his 7 overs) but then opened up with some lusty blows and nice touches. He looked set to score a century until he was bowled for an excellent 90 to become a member of 'The Belhus CC 90's Club' with the first wicket realising 108. Double figure contributions from Amit Gohil (14) Greg Mendham (42 not out) who was particularly fluent, and Paul Newton (13 not out)combined with some excellent running between the wickets, kept up the misery for the visitors.
In reply, Willingale had to go for their shots and Jack Plane had early success when he removed their best batsman for 4. A very unusual occurrence then happened when Plane bowled opposition No. 3 batsman but the bails never came off! This completely bamboozled stumper Mike Randall and the ball went for 4 byes. With such a large total, Willingale were always "up against it" and were bowled out for 133 in 32 overs with all of our bowlers having success. Joshua Reynolds bowled particularly well to return 3 for 25 from 6 overs. A good day for Belhus 2's that went almost too well.
