Match report Electing to bat in this 40 over encounter at the Village Green, Belhus 2nd XI were soon in trouble reeling at 14 for 4. Opener Alfie Rowley ran himself out, Scott Stonham chopped on, Greg Mendham was well held at point and Paul Newton was bowled all ends up. Opener Randall and John Wilson(15) with a double figure contribution stopped the slide as did Zak Wilson (12). However, Sam Hall showed great maturity with Mike Randall(45) to save embarrassment as the 6th wicket realised 70 runs. Randall then holed out to mid-off with the score on 126. Hall continued to bat well and a maiden senior 50 looked on until he was last man out for an excellent 46 as Belhus closed on a respectable 151 a.o with three balls left. A far cry from 14 for 4!

At tea the heavens opened and the covers came on and with grey clouds all around the game looked over. Miraculously, the rain stopped and the Noak Hill reply began at 6.08pm.

Atoning for their miserable batting performance, the Belhus bowling and fielding faired far better and wickets fell regularly as the confidence of the visitors faded. Sam Hall, Scott Stonham, Wilf Gansbhuler and young George Maidment, all with two wickets apiece, bowled very well. Noak Hill finally reached 149 with the last pair at the crease and it was left to Paul French to hit the winning runs after a rush of blood the previous ball. A great match played in good spirit that at one time looked very unlikely to finish. Cricket was the winner.
