Belhus Cricket Club Saturday 5th XI v Rayleigh on Sat 05 May 2012 at 1pm
Belhus Cricket Club Won by 4 Wickets
Match report
The first club cricket played at Thames RFC for over 20 years managed to survive the weather and in the presence of the local Mayor a full days play was completed.
Rayleigh Batting first lost a quick early wicket but then progressed albeit slowly to 98 for two. Cliff Cansdale bowling the initial spell at Thames conceding only 21 runs in his 10 overs. C. Slough 41, K. Patel 31 assisted by Rebecca Holyoak 31 being the main scorers. Lynch then added a quickfire 20 as the visitors concluded on 152 for 6 with Elliott Playle and Mike Squires taking 2 wickets each. The sixth wicket falling on the last ball of the innings to a stunning one handed catch by Squires.
In reply the Belhus openers set a fast pace reaching 50 of the first 10 overs. In his club debut Naveed Mirza made a fast 22 and Mike Randall progressing to 60. However the home side lost 3 quick wickets and at 130 for 5 with 6 overs remaining the outcome was unsure. However a fine partnership between Bradley Stevens (15) and Lee Hawkes 13 not out saw their team through to a 4 wicket victory in the 39th Over.
Great thanks must go to all at Belhus who worked hard to produce the funding for the installation of the surface and those members of Thames RFC and Belhus CC who worked many hours to ensure this fixture took place and made the day a memorable occasion.
