Belhus carved out an unlikely win from the jaws of defeat after amazing recoveries in both innings of this match at Thames Rugby Club on Sunday. Eversley Park had stormed into a seemingly unassailable lead as openers Lee Smith and Joshua Emerson put on 81 for the first wicket. Smith was eventually trapped leg before for 41, while Emerson went for one run fewer. A mini-collapse followed, but Park recovered from 121-6 through Matthew Knight with an undefeated 23 while Tony Westwell was also undefeated on 14. Cliff Cansdale was the pick of the home attack with three wickets at a cost of 32 runs from eight overs while Mike Randall rolled back the years in claiming 2-21, also from eight overs (two maidens).

After tea, Belhus were in all sorts of trouble at three runs for two wickets after just 3.2 overs, but then Greg Mendham and Jack Plane formed a valuable third-wicket partnership of 43 to produce a degree of respectability for the home response. There was more to come. Scott Stonham smashed five fours and one six in a match-winning innings of 56 not out, as he put on 76 for the sixth wicket with his acting captain, Randall. Randall himself scored 40 but Stonham had to wait until the very last ball of the match to secure the win by smashing the ball to the cover boundary.
