Anson St George v Belhus Cricket Club Sunday 2nd XI on Sun 02 Sep 2012 at 1pm
Belhus Cricket Club Lost by 66 Runs
Match report
Electing to Bat Anson & St George put a ten man Belhus Sunday II's due to a very late pull out to the sword racing to 74 off the first 10 overs. Hornchurch 1st team player and opener Edwards was severe on anything loose racing to 66 off just 56 ball on a very good wicket as opening bowlers Scott Stonham and Sam Hall suffered. The introduction of spin from the evergreen Cliff Cansdale and veteran Mike Randall drastically cut the run rate with Edwards very well held by Keith Dhannie off the former. Randall took 1 for 25 off 7 overs and Cansdale 3-41 off 8. Jim Banner also chipped in with 2 for 48 off 8 overs. The tail wagged strongly with the reintroduction of medium pace posting 216 for 6 off 40 overs which could have been a lot more. Keith Dhannie also bowled well to help apply the brakes but finished wicketless.
In reply, Belhus got off to a flyer reaching 55 without loss off 10 overs. However, there was an unlucky rare occurrence when Michael Cansdale drove hard up the ground only for the ball to rebound off the bowler's foot to run out the non-striker Jim Banner who was on 30 when looking well set for a big score. Fellow opener Mike Cansdale then holed out on the boundary to James and Keith Dahannie mis-judged the length to be plum LBW to the same bowler. This brought Scott Stonham to the crease who batted well (31) despite losing a succession of partners, including newcomer Paul Newton who made 4 and Randall 11 as the innings subsided. Some resolute batting from Sam Hall in tandem with Stonham until the latter fell to the off spin of Edwards, Toby Reynolds and Cliff Cansdale battled on and both made double figures to earn respectability in a disappointing result as Belhus closed 66 runs short.
