Belhus Cricket Club Sunday 2nd XI v Noak Hill Taverners on Sun 13 May 2012 at 2pm
Belhus Cricket Club Won by 82 Runs
Match report
Noak Hill won the toss and elected to field first in the first Sunday 2's match of the season. Due to rain the previous 3 games had been cancelled so everyone was glad to get a game in.
Belhus's innings started steadily with openers Randall and Baker getting the score to 19 before Randall was bowled. Heffernan and Baker built a small partnership to get to 37 before Baker was caught behind. After Heffernan was stumped Belhus were in a bit of trouble at 58-4. However this brought Ryan Wells to the crease who slowly began to build a good innings. Ben Kent fell for a duck at the other end which brought Mendham to the crease who put the pressure on Noak Hill with a brisk 29. Stonham then joined Wells and they built a good partnership to get Belhus to a good score. At 128-5 after 30 overs it looked like a low score may be on the board. But with Stonham playing steadily at his end it was left to Ryan Wells to push on. Once Wells got to his 50 he accelerated extremely quickly to go from his 50 to his maiden Belhus hundred in just 27 balls. His 100 came up in just 93 balls including 8 fours and 2 sixes. He fell the ball after getting his ton LBW but the damage was done and it was a great knock. Without this contribution Belhus would have really been struggling. Putting on 100 runs in the last 12 overs made a possibly low score into a tough one on a good pitch with a slow outfield.
After tea Noak Hill built their innings steadily and their opening partnership reached it's fifty in the 13th over. However 2 wickets fell in the next over with Jack Plane bowling Mick Hodgson for 29 and Lee French being run out. Noak Hill's scoring started to stem with tight bowling from the Belhus CC bowlers and wickets coming fairly regularly. Plane took another 2 wickets in his first spell and this combined with Greg Mendhams sole wicket and run out left Noak Hill on 95-5 after 26 overs. Plane returned for his second spell and took a wicket immediately to leave him with 4 wickets. He came very close to getting his 5fer in that over however he had to wait, with the last ball of his spell he got his first club 5fer thanks to a catch by Mike Randall. From there on in wickets were scattered about with Paul Whitlock taking a wicket with his last ball and Mike Randall taking a wicket with the last ball of the match. Roy Heffernan's and Greg Mendham's runout's combined with the good bowling performance saw Noak Hill restricted to 135 all out at the end of the 40 overs.
