This match started in extraordinary fashion when home wicketkeeper Andy Higgins missed the ball and it crashed into a parked protective helmet, the result of which was the award of five penalty runs to Belhus which opened their account. There were no more gifts but Belhus were able to post a good total of 214 for 8, mainly through opener Michael Cansdale, 61, Jake Wolfe, 25 Jack Plane, 31 and Scot Stonham 17. For the home side, Joe Davies, 3-31, and Matthew Perry 3-51, kept things in check and Rob Hull gave valuable support with two wickets at a cost of just ten runs.

In reply, South Weald opened with two left-handers, Howard Imbert and Adam Chambers. After a cautious start thanks to the wiley Cliff Cansdale who conceeded just 26 runs from his 8 overs the South Weald batsmen blazed their way to victory by a massive 9 wkts off 35.2 overs as the Belhus "back up" bowling failed to deliver as a unit having a disappointing "off day" and bowling 16 wides!!! and many leg side deliveries. Chambers blasted his way to a fine, match-winning 104 not out. His knock contained ten fours and two sixes to put Belhus well and truly in the shade. Imbert was the only Weald wicket to fall, caught by Ben Kent off the bowling of Plane (1-57 from eight overs). Number three batsman Hull was undefeated at the close with exactly 50 runs to his name.
