Colchester and East Essex won the toss and elected to bat in this top of the table Shepherd Neame Essex League clash at Ockendon Recreation Ground on Saturday. Belhus paceman Alan Maidment took three early wickets with support from Jim Banner, Jabir Sarwar and Jack Plane, all of whom picked up two wickets apiece. In reply, Jim Banner played a major role in the Belhus six-wicket win with 48, while Ben Marns gave strong support with 20 runs. Unbeaten, also with 20 runs, was Lee Webber in a very tight game.

Acting Belhus captain Jim Robertson was delighted with the result and added: "Full credit should be given to Colchester whose attack made us fight all the way in a very tense match".
