Rainham v Belhus Cricket Club Sunday 2nd XI on Sun 15 May 2011 at 2pm
Belhus Cricket Club Lost by 37 Runs
Match report
A 'cracking' game over at Rainham saw the home-side edge to victory against an understrength Belhus 2nd XI, with youngster Toby Reynolds making his senior team debut and dads Ron Norris and Mark Kent in our number.
The hosts won the toss and batted, this proved a good choice as runs came easily for the Rainham batters, although Belhus did take an early wicket which brought Rainham 1st X1 player Skipper to the crease, who smashed 107 not out, off 91 balls for his maiden century, before retiring, Foster who opened the batting scored a fine 89 seeing the hosts to a large total of 267-2 off their 40 overs, with Belhus bowlers Danny Norris and Barry Ruck taking one wicket each.
Despite chasing a difficult total Belhus got off to a fine start as Gohil scoring runs freely with Randall in a supporting role, Gohil's 77 was his highest recorded score for Belhus, Belhus continued to run chase when Danny Norris 51 came to the crease, after Mike Randall fell to a ball that kept low for 41, the middle order collapse was initiated by the indifferent bounce and no other batsman scored double figures, with the requied run rate increasing, Rainham used no fewer that 8 bowlers to keep Belhus interested, the game ending with Belhus just 37 runs short of the hosts total.
Fine efforts from all of the team, especially youngster Toby Reynolds on debut, Toby scored 5 runs before getting bowled by what looked to be a 'pea-roller and the two dads played their part as Mark Kent put in good effort in the field and veteran Ron Norris batting at number 11 stroked a superb four at the end of the innings.
I cannot praise my team enough for this excellent performance.
