Great & Little Warley v Belhus Cricket Club Sunday 1st XI on Sun 19 Sep 2010 at 1pm
Belhus Cricket Club Won by 38 Runs
Match report
Belhus 1st 154-9
Great and Little Warley 120 all out
There were some dramatic twists in this 35 overs per side game at Warley on Sunday with both teams producing significant batting collapses. The dismissals of Belhus openers from consecutive deliveries, specifically Jim Banner for exactly 50 and Michael Randall for 25, sparked the first procession of batsmen to and from the pavilion as the visitors crashed from 82 without loss to 103 for eight. However, the tail wagged in the form of an undefeated 25 from Cliff Cansdale, his innings included two consecutive sixes in the final over. Charnaka was the bowler largely responsible for the collapse with an astonishing haul of six wickets for just six runs from his alloted seven overs.
The Belhus collapse was surpassed by the hosts, who regressed from 100 for 3 to 120 all out. Spin bowlers Cansdale and Brian Edwards wreaked havoc on the slow turner of a pitch by claiming 3-15 and 3-28 respectively. There was some excellent out fielding too, as Barry Ruck executed two fine efforts in the deep outfield, Roy Heffernan snared two catches at backward square-leg and Mark Fogg set the ball rolling with a fine catch at mid-off to start the Warley slide. Dinesh hit 46 and Ajith struck 31 for Warley, but the hosts fell 34 runs short.
