Belhus Cricket Club News story

DOWN MEMORY LANE - 60 YEARS AGO

ALL OPPOSITION BATTERS CLEAN-BOWLED:

Pinchin Johnson Associates 14.  Belhus Sunday 1st XI 16-0.

In the Sunday 1st XI match at London Playing Fields, Ilford on 1st May 1966, Pinchin Johnson Associates batted first, only to come up against our bowlers in supremely accurate form.  PJA were promptly dismissed for just 14 as all of their batters were clean-bowled.  We casually knocked off the required runs to win by 10 wickets.

Roydon 121.  Belhus Saturday 2nd XI 20.

Not to be outdone, our Saturday 2nd XI produced the very same feat in their match against Roydon at Belhus Park on 13th August when they too clean-bowled all 10 opposition batters for a 'gettable' total of 121.

Alas, in our reply, the Belhus batters clearly ate far too many cakes for tea as they collapsed to just 20 (yes, twenty) all out to lose by 101 runs.  6 of our batters managed to make 'ducks'.

These are the only instances in the Club's history where all of our opposition batters were clean-bowled.  A fine achievement, but it has been a long 60-year wait for a repeat performance.
